Title |
R. Cali Brothers Mill, Cupertino |
Description |
Series of photographs of the old R. Cali Brothers Mill. According to "Italians in the Valley" (Arcadia Publishing): "R. Cali and Brother in Cupertino was a typical food and fuel shop that sold dairy, poultry and rabbit feeds and wood and coal. By 1907, Rosario Cali had made his way to California from the province of Catanio, Sicily, Italy, to build roads for the Suisun Cement Company for $2 day plus board. He and his brother Sam established R. Cali and Brother in 1922. The Cali brothers' mill was located at the intersection of De Anza Boulevard and Stevens Creek Road when it was just a dirt road. Standing at the historic crossroads today is the Cali Mill Plaza, which consists of a hotel and shopping complex." |
